What is Process Hydraulics?
The transportation and storage of fluids is essential to a chemical process plant. Piping, valves, pumps and compressors comprise the major components of fluid handling equipment. The goal of process hydraulics in a design is to overcome frictional losses in piping and equipment, provide correct operating conditions, and overall assist in the controls of the plant.
Need for Hydraulic Calculations
- The sizing of pipes depends on pressure drop across the system. The correct hydraulics can provide optimum pipe size.
- In case of pumps it can provide correct head required which will in pump selection. The hydraulics will help to optimize the discharge pipe size, pump size (head).
- The cooling water network hydraulic analysis will help to predict & assess the performance of the exchangers in the network. This will help in plan the maintenance and/or changes in cooling water circuit.
